of United Church of God, Manchester, volunteers to try to bring law
and order to the streets of the city |
Teams
of "street pastors" have been recruited from churches across
the city and have begun patrolling parts of Moss Side, talking to youngsters
in danger of getting involved with guns, gangs, and drugs. Among the
team, are members of the United Church of God, Manchester, namely Mark
Smith and Paul Nelson. |

Volunteer Paul Nelson, who attends the United Church of God in Longsight, said: "There's a need for this, the young men see drugs and guns as the only way, and there's been so many shootings in the last few years. We're trying to target the young people and show them a better way of life. We've had a good reception, but I think it'll take people a while to get used to us and let us help them. It's a very softly, softly approach at first, but people want to see more of us, and we want to have more of a presence." |
